I had the opportunity to photograph the cast of Children’s Musical Theater San Jose Marquee Production of Singin’ In The Rain. The headshots were to be used for the lobby display at the Montgomery Theater. I wanted to create a Classic Vintage Hollywood look that was typically used in the 30′s and 40′s. The photographers from that era used hot fresnel light sources to create the gritty, glamourous look for the male and female actors of the day. Even the posing from that time period was much different than the average headshot of today. I used grid spot lighting to create the grittier look as well as a ring light to help control contrast. The cast was great in going along with the photography style and helped create some great looks. The show finishes up this weekend April 22-25, 2010 and I highly recommend seeing this fabulous production that includes some very cool special effects including “making it rain” on stage. You can purchase tickets online at Children’s Musical Theater San Jose!
