The Witches of The Wiz. Just in time for Halloween!

I really enjoyed the creative process of producing 2 banners that were used on stage for Children’s Musical Theater San Jose production of The Wiz over this past summer. Each banner would be 4 feet by 12 feet in size. I first photographed two of the actresses that were to play Glinda and Evillene. I photographed the girls on a white background and then dropped out the white using Photoshop. Creating the backgrounds to be used behind the witches was a lot of fun. I ended up photographing several store window displays as well as doorways at the Union Square Fashion District in San Francisco. I then used Photoshop to blend and combine several images together to create the backgrounds for Glinda and Evillene . Here are the final versions.

Young Actor Headshots for Nicolas

I had the opportunity to shoot some new headshots for a very talented young actor, Nicolas. He needed some new headshots for this past summer’s production of ‘Nine’ at San Jose’s City Lights Theater in which he played ‘Young Guido’. I had a great time with him and his mom getting some new shots. Here’s one of the favorites.

Children’s Musical Theater San Jose production of “The Secret Garden”

I had the opportunity to photograph the two actresses, who are both playing Lily in the Children’s Musical Theater San Jose production of “The Secret Garden”. I photographed the actresses at the rehearsal hall and then dropped in a background of a garden type setting. Finding the right garden background image was the tricky part. After several hours of visiting parks and neighborhoods I finally found a house that had the perfect background. I used photoshop to create a painterly look to the images to resemble an Old World Artist’s Painting. The project was a lot of fun creatively! Senior Portrait Photography with a Twilight Twist!

I’m out scouting a location for another shoot and decide to take Brenna along with me. We find this alley that has some great natural lighting. The sun is hitting a wall and windows on a building across the alley and the 2 windows are reflecting bright spots of light equally spaced behind Brenna. We took several shots and walked around for about an hour shooting and scouting locations. After downloading the images I started playing around with this image. Since my oldest 2 daughters are big fans of the Twilight series and since the new movie is coming out soon, I decided to create a Movie Poster look. I have noticed that since my daughter has been on Summer Break, that she’s been staying up later and later every night!! Mmmm, I wonder??? New Senior Portrait Look For Live Out Loud Photography!

A new Senior Look for Live Out Loud Photography!! I wanted a grittier (is that a word) look. Something you could see on a CD Cover or Magazine Cover. More stylized. This photo of my son, Brian is what I came up with. The background is at Fremont High School during one of our semi-rainy days, but any background from any school, any location could work. The ideas are endless. I can’t wait to shoot some more!

Vintage Hollywood Photo Shoot with the cast of Singin’ In The Rain!

I had the opportunity to photograph the cast of Children’s Musical Theater San Jose Marquee Production of Singin’ In The Rain. The headshots were to be used for the lobby display at the Montgomery Theater. I wanted to create a Classic Vintage Hollywood look that was typically used in the 30′s and 40′s. The photographers from that era used hot fresnel light sources to create the gritty, glamourous look for the male and female actors of the day. Even the posing from that time period was much different than the average headshot of today. I used grid spot lighting to create the grittier look as well as a ring light to help control contrast. The cast was great in going along with the photography style and helped create some great looks. The show finishes up this weekend April 22-25, 2010 and I highly recommend seeing this fabulous production that includes some very cool special effects including “making it rain” on stage. Live Out Loud Photography had the opportunity to photograph some of the young actors from the Children’s Musical Theater San Jose. Founded in 1968 to create a community-based children’s theater in San Jose, CA, Children’s Musical Theater (CMT) is now one of the nation’s largest youth musical theater and training programs of its kind. The mission of CMT is to train and educate today’s youth through musical theater to set and achieve high artistic and personal goals, and to inspire them to become exemplary artists, patrons and citizens of tomorrow.
